Comments: Here is the classic large Coke-Bottle knife by inter-frame master Steve Hoel. It has the traditional dagger blade and a wonderful inlay of flawless presentation grade Mother of Pearl, some of the finest we've seen in this large size. As with all of Steve’s masterpieces the fit and finish is flawless and the knife opens and closes with astonishing smoothness.
The engraving, created for the 2009 Art Knife Invitational (AKI) is by peerless engraver Amayak Stepanyan in the high-relief style that is his signature. The image is an homage to Tamara de Lempicka, the most famous and most successful painter of the Art Deco period.
Beautifully carved deeply into steel is a likeness taken from the painters most famous self-portrait showing her at the wheel of a Bugatti! While the other bolsters are adorned with her famous sky scrapper and a celebated nude which are among her most celebrated images.
