Comments:

This Scott Sawby Knife is a six inlay model Kittewake and one of our favorite Scott Sawby knives. It has a lovely shape and just seems to melt into the hand. The execution is flawless and the knife opens and closes like a dream. And it simply doesn't have a bad angle.

An important part of the package is Scott's patented self-lock‚ which can easily be operated with one hand and gets tighter if you try to close the knife without pressing the lock correctly. First rate inlays of gem-grade Lapis and Biggs Jasper top off the package. Scott Sawby is one of the most collectible makers, and this a superb and hard to find example of his work.

About Scott Sawby:

In 1970 he began making knives as a hobby. Sawby says, "it was difficult to get started back then, as there were no books on knifemaking and very few makers around to get advice from." He teamed up with Steve Mullin and they went north to see Bernard Sparks in Dingle, Idaho. Bernie was one of the original custom knifemakers and a founding member of the Guild. He pointed them in the right direction, showed them what a belt sander was, and then they went back to Logan to construct one. For the next few years they made knives either full or part time depending on what other employment was available.

In 1976 Steve and Sawby bought adjoining pieces of land in North Idaho, built log homes on them and became professional knifemakers. Their first shop was built of logs. Eventually outgrowing it and in 1983 he sold his half to Steve and built a shop of his own nearby where he still works to this day.
