Walker started as a jeweler. One day his wife, Patricia Walker, gave him a Gerber knife and a copy of American Blade Magazine. He noticed the similarities between his jewelry and the custom art knives and decided he would try his luck with knifemaking. Walker patented or trademarked over 20 different mechanisms for locks and composite cutting blades on pocketknives.
