Comments: At this point it would probably be an understatement to say that John Young is the hottest maker of classic stock-removal fixed blades on the custom knife scene today. But of course it's still true. When we met John at the 2004 Knifemakers Guild Show he was a guy making quality knives with a 4-6 month waiting list.
Today John has to sell his knives by drawing at shows to avoid a riot, is quoting 3-6 years for delivery, depending on the model. And the fit and finish of his knives is absolutely second to none, including knives made by his distinguished mentor Steve Johnson. To learn more about John and his work please see the Featured Artists pages of our site.
Besides making an assortment of classic Loveless and Johnson shapes, John has produced a number of interesting designs of his own with many more sure to come. This is one of the best and the most rare, with only 10 examples for the entire world! It has a 416 stainless guard and a flawless blade of ATS-34 that is double-ground on one side and flat-ground on the other - which is very unusual and tough to do! The scales are superb presentation-grade fossil ivory. This beauty is even better in person!
