Comments: As many of you already know Jim Schmidt, along with Bill Moran, was one of the early makers who helped re-introduce Damascus steel to the general public. Jim’s knives are exceptionally rare and have risen in value steadily since his early death in 2000.
It is also believed that Jim never produced more than 12 knives a year at his peak, which makes Schmidt knives among the most rare and most prized collectibles in the universe of custom knives. Recent estimates by knowledgeable sources suggest there may be no more than 225 Schmidt in existence.
This Sambar Stag Schmidt was completed 1988 and is called Lady Luster. All of the classic Jim Schmidt details are here, including the standout frame shape, intricately filed liners, functional bale and an unusual Stag Inlaid Thumb-stud.
This was also the XXX knife Jim made.
Truly a rare and wonderful item – the perfect centerpiece for any classic folding knife collection.
