Jim's knives are exceptionally rare and have risen in value steadily since his early death in 2000. It is also believed that Jim never produced more than 12 knives a year at his peak, which makes Schmidt custom knives among the most rare and most prized collectibles in the universe of custom knives.

Recent estimates by knowledgeable sources suggest there may be no more than 225 Schmidt folding knives in existence. This Classic Schmidt was made during the Golden period of the 90s.
