Here is a truly remarkable knife by the deceased Master Smith Jim Schmidt. Besides making wonderful knives, Jim was best known as one of the early Damascus masters and a mentor to many fine current blade smiths – including Barry Davis and Dellana to name a few.
Generally Jim’s knives were large and beefy, like the man, but this is one of very few pocket-sized Gentleman’s Folders we’ve ever seen. In fact, we can only think of three others crossing our paths in the last 17 years – now that’s rarity!
Here are all of the classic Schmidt details – the famous shape, the bold damascus, the great back-filing and the wonderful bail. The liners are artfully filed in just the right proportion and the Presentation-grade Black-lip Pearl scales are superb. The knife is topped off with a forged bail and gold pins to hold the scales.
Pass up this masterpiece and you may never see another!
