Comments: Here is a truly remarkable knife by the deceased Master Smith Jim Schmidt. Besides making wonderful knives, Jim was best known as one of the early Damascus masters and a mentor to many fine current Blade Smiths – including Barry Davis and Dellana to name a few.
This Jim Schmidt knife is called “Sweet Kiss” and was made in 1994 during Jim’s final ten years, often referred to as “The Golden Period.” Schmidt’ from this era are generally the best made, most collectible, and most desirable.
Generally, Jim’s knives were large and beefy, like the man, but this is one of very few pocket-sized Gentleman’s Folders we’ve ever seen. In fact, we can only think of a few others crossing our paths in the last 17 years – now that’s rarity!
Here are all of the classic Schmidt details – the famous shape, the bold Damascus, the great back-filing, and the wonderful circular thumb stud. The liners are artfully filed in just the right proportion and the Presentation-grade Black-lip Pearl Scales are superb. The knife is topped off with gold pins to contrast the scales.
Pass up this masterpiece and you may never see another!
In his entire 30 year career Jim made only 224 folders, and fewer than 10% of those were folding daggers, so calling this little Masterpiece rare is a bit of an understatement. This Jim Schmidt knife is world-class and absolutely irreplaceable!
