Those of you who read these pages regularly already know that there has been a burst of custom knife making virtuosity from Europe in the last several years and from Italy in particular.
Now there is a new name from Italy throwing his hat into the ring and producing high-tech custom folders with interesting and attractive designs as well as compelling technical flourishes.
His name is Corrado Moro.
Before becoming a custom knife maker, Moro was a technician specializing in design-engineering, project development and milling. More specifically his work was focused on the construction of gyro-stabilized structures for helicopters used in ground scanning. Moro is a member of the Italian Knife Makers Guild(CIC Corporazione Italiana Coltellinai) and in October of 2012 won the prize for “Best Folder” at the Bologna Show.
He loves the opportunity to work with all types of materials and is happy to use whatever fits the needs of his client’s best. His knife making philosophy can best be described as a total focus on the 100% elimination of construction errors and adherence to proven construction strategies. Asked about the source for his current knife styles he says that he likes to create knives inspired by natural and man-made things around him.
His current production is approximately 12 knives per year.
