Jean-Pierre Sucheras – French Custom Knife Maker and Cutler
Jean-Pierre Sucheras, born in the historic French cutlery town of Thiers, is a self-taught custom knife maker who has been crafting exceptional knives for 18 years.
A member of the Italian Knife Guild, he has exhibited at leading knife shows for more than 15 years and continues to earn international recognition. Most notably, he received the Best Folder and Best Table awards at the 2006 Paris Knife Show.
Even more remarkable are his two “Un des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France” distinctions—one in 2004 for the Multi-Blade category and another in 2007 for Hunting Knives. Only eight knife makers have earned this prestigious title in the past century, an honor personally presented by the President of France.
Jean-Pierre balances two professions: as a highly regarded custom knife maker and as a fabricator of precision prototype aircraft parts for the French Ministry of Defense. His technical expertise gives him the freedom to create knives of exceptional accuracy and complexity. He favors antique tortoise, antique ivory, and a range of natural handle materials.
His deep knowledge of manufacturing techniques allows him to craft multi-blade masterpieces that express both mood and personality. This versatility has become a hallmark of his artistry.
Among his inspirations are Kaj Embretsen, Michael Walker, Wolfgang Loerchner, and Tim Herman, admired for their elegant lines and fluid design language.
Jean-Pierre currently exhibits at the Paris and Milan Knife Shows and hopes to share his work with American collectors in the near future. He is passionate about showcasing the innovation and craftsmanship of traditional French cutlery, reinterpreted through modern design and precision fabrication.
Current delivery times range from four to twelve months, depending on the model.
