Glenn Waters – Custom Knife Maker, Jeweler & Engraver
Glenn Waters is an Australian custom knife maker, jeweler, and engraver based in Japan.
A jeweler by trade, Waters has trained in the Japanese art of Jujutsu since he was six years old. As a result, he eventually developed his own martial arts style in 1990, which he has been teaching to Japanese pupils ever since.
Glenn also holds a 7th Dan black belt in Jujutsu and a 3rd Dan black belt in Batto (cutting with a live sword), also known as Tameshigiri. He moved to Japan permanently in 1986 and has been creating hand-made knives since 1993. Drawing on his deep understanding of the blades used in Jujutsu, he designs practical and functional knives, while his jewelry and engraving expertise transforms each piece into a work of art collected worldwide.
Waters has won major international awards, including Best in Show, Best Folder, Best Tactical Knife, and Best Art Knife at knife shows in America, Australia, France, and Japan. His most recent awards include Best Folder at the 2016 SICAC Paris Show and both Best Folder and Best Miniature at the 2017 Blade Show in Atlanta. His work has been published in numerous magazines and books across America, Australia, China, France, Italy, Japan, and Russia.
Waters creates tactical knives, art knives, and art tactical knives for the discerning collector and the rugged gentleman alike. His art knives often tell intricate stories with strong Japanese themes. Frequently, the entire knife — including the blade — is engraved and decorated with imagery inspired by his love of Japan, its history, mythology, and his own lived experiences there.
