Fabrizio Silvestrelli – Italian Custom Knife Maker and Designer
Fabrizio Silvestrelli, a full-time custom knife maker based in Lecco, Italy, created his first knife at the age of eight and began his professional knife-making career in 1988. Since becoming a full-time maker in 2004, Fabrizio has earned a reputation as one of Italy’s most respected and accomplished knife artisans.
With a professional background in tool-making and carpentry, Fabrizio also trained in drawing, painting, and sculpture, skills that enrich the artistic dimension of his craft. A true artisan, he approaches knife making with both technical mastery and deep creative intent.
His philosophy is best expressed in his own words:
“I am convinced that every artistic creation requires a great passion on the part of the artisan; otherwise the actual task would become mechanical and cold. Each knife produced should be the result of painstaking care and attention to detail, a unique piece of work, which provokes emotions to the eye and to the touch. The artisan should always be thinking up new forms and designs.”
Fabrizio’s early career provided him with a strong understanding of metal processing and thermal treatment techniques, which became the foundation of his work in knife making. His portfolio includes both modern fixed-blade and folding knives, created from high-performance materials such as RWL-34, 440B, and 440C steels, along with both home-made and industrial damascus. For handles, he favors ivory, animal teeth, wood, and mother of pearl — blending elegance and durability in each piece.
A hallmark of Fabrizio’s knives is the rounded treatment of liners, bolsters, and handles, eliminating any rough edges for comfort and refinement. Each knife receives a manual longitudinal blade glazing and a fine polish across every component — from spacers to screws — reflecting his belief that every detail deserves perfection.
Since 2005, Fabrizio has collaborated with Tecnocut di Maniago in Italy, designing several of their production knife models. He is a member of the Italian Cutler Corporation and was elected to its executive board in 2007.
Fabrizio currently exhibits at the Milan Custom Knife Show and the Solingen Custom Knife Show in Germany but does not participate in shows in the United States.
