Emmanuel Esposito – Italian Custom Knife Maker and Innovator

Emmanuel Esposito, born in Torino, Italy in 1985, is one of the fastest-rising stars in the world of high-end custom knives. He began making knives in 2002 after studying mechanics and working in his family’s machine shop, where he developed a deep appreciation for precision machining and complex mechanisms.

Emmanuel prefers natural handle materials such as black and white pearl and antique tortoise, and cites Charly Bennica, Jürgen Steinau, and Richard Hodgson as the makers he most admires. His work features aggressive modern designs, and his reputation has earned him a year-long waiting list for new deliveries.

A proud member of the Italian Knife Makers Guild (Corporazione Italiana Coltellinai), Emmanuel exhibits at only two shows each year — the CIC in Milan and the East Coast Custom Knife Show in New York. His close circle of friends includes many of Europe’s top artisans, such as Charly Bennica, Antonio Fogarizzu, Salvatore Puddu, and Francesco Pachi — a “who’s who” of contemporary European knife making.

Emmanuel crafts both folders and integral fixed blades, specializing in knives that can be fully disassembled and that incorporate complex mechanical systems. His patented ball-bearing pivot mechanism delivers exceptional stability and fluid movement, maintaining strength regardless of blade position. Remarkably, Emmanuel also fabricates every screw and component used in his knives, ensuring total control over quality and fit.

Always pursuing innovation, Emmanuel recently completed a high-end collaborative folder with Charly Bennica. The prototype — a stunning piece featuring gold lip inlay — appears in Emmanuel’s Maker’s Gallery as the first limited edition bearing the Bennica–Esposito logo.

Collectors often compare Emmanuel’s early trajectory to that of industry legends. As one admirer put it, “Ever wish you purchased a Ron Lake before he became a legend?” Emmanuel may well be the next great name in folding knife artistry. He currently resides in Buttigliera Alta, near Torino, Italy.

Comments on Emmanuel Esposito from Charly Bennica

“Emmanuel is above all passionately interested in mechanics and machines. Making knives has become his raison d’être. He was introduced to all things mechanical at an early age by his grandfather, who taught him the trade. Determined and creative, he went from fixed-blade knives to folding ones with the same success.

He is the first knife maker to create a folding knife with a ball-bearing system. His work is impeccable, and I believe he will become one of the great knife makers — his pieces are a must for every serious collector.

I get along very well with Emmanuel because we share the same priorities: perfection and exploration — researching materials and design to advance the art of knife making.”
