Curt Erickson – Custom Knife Maker and Artisan

Curt Erickson has been crafting handmade knives since 1983, when he had the great opportunity to study under legendary knifemaker Buster Warenski. A close friend of Curt’s father, Buster graciously agreed to teach him the finer points of the craft.
The experience of working with Buster and spending time in his shop profoundly shaped Curt’s life and artistry — an influence that remains evident in his work today.

Curt began his journey as a part-time knife maker, eventually transitioning into full-time work. During this period, he won several awards and became one of the youngest voting members of the Knifemakers Guild. His passion for knife making comes from the artistic freedom and craftsmanship it allows — working with his hands to bring each blade to perfection. Curt creates a variety of custom knives using only the finest materials, but his true passion lies in crafting daggers, where his precision and attention to symmetry truly shine.

In the spring of 1990, Curt began a new chapter in his life, pursuing his childhood dream of becoming a law enforcement officer. Knife making became a cherished hobby during his years of service. Now, as he nears retirement, Curt is returning to his craft full-time, rekindling the passion that first began in Buster’s workshop.

The winter of 2005 brought Curt full circle when he was asked to share his knowledge with Julie Warenski, who sought to learn Buster’s grinding and finishing techniques. Honored to give back the same lessons that had once been passed to him, Curt began teaching Julie the methods that define the Warenski legacy. Today, Curt and Julie work together as a husband-and-wife knife making team, continuing the tradition of excellence that began decades ago.

Curt attends several knife shows each year, where collectors and enthusiasts can meet him and view his work in person.

Best Regards,
Curt Erickson
