Comments: As many of you already know Jim Schmidt, along with Bill Moran, was one of the early makers who helped re-introduce Damascus steel to the general public. Jim’s knives are exceptionally rare and have risen in value steadily since his early death in 2000.
It is also believed that Jim never produced more than 12 knives a year at his peak, which makes Schmidt knives among the most rare and most prized collectibles in the universe of custom knives. Recent estimates by knowledgeable sources suggest there may be no more than 225 Schmidt folding knives in existence.
This Samabar Stag Schmidt was made in the late 1980s. All of the classic Jim Schmidt details are here – including the standout frame shape, intricately filed liners and functional bale. The knife is in mint condition and the exceptional scales are modern replacements by Jim's most famous pupil, Barry Davis.
Truly a rare and wonderful item - the perfect centerpiece for any classic folding knife collection.
